Humbled No.1
An excerpt from a book I am reading. This is about chasing unnecessary material wealth (i.e. iPhone, iPad etc hehehe).
"... now do you see the folly in chasing after most material goods? So isn't it time we stop spending money on things that do not really matter and instead, spend more time and effort in building our character? Not only it's more rewarding, it is also cheaper."
hmm...
Comments
BMW vs Proton
Nike vs Power
Combi stroller vs Tesco's
Mothercare vs Anakku
and the list goes on…
Anyway, this is nice. I've always looked up to people with character, even when they don't really have much in terms of material.
why choose nike when you can also run with power/bata. why spend more money on something that can do the same job?
why spend RM10,000 on a handbag that will go out of fashion in a few years?
why buy a big house and big car for a family of four/five?
The answer to the conundrum is simple. It's all about status. Material wealth places you in the ladder of society.
Peace.
kash - in context of the overall content of the book, your comparison is correct. of course we have to factor in safety aspects etc... so mebbe not BMW vs proton, coz proton cars, well, you know hehehe
and Power shoes? heheeheh, Haza made a good point hahahaha
Haza - knock some sense in us... pull me back in, please...
I know. I am in advertising. Clients come to us with a product to sell and we go all out to hype the product. Advertising people are good at telling stories. They are paid big money to create stories.
Having said that, I buy into the advertising hype like everyone else. I believe nike can make me run faster, go longer, not a Power, and if I want to be 'safer' on the road, I will choose a Volvo and not a Proton.
we and the world. Peace
It is also not fair to forbid us the luxuries of life, provided if I could afford within my means, lah. I believe we should enjoy our life, and our hard-earned salary :)
Re: the advertising, the ones with the best marketing hype always sell. unfortunately i am in the business of blinding people too. sorry everyone.
=p
lari topik sikit, but just thinking that maybe the joy of doing things come not from doing it, but from buying the stuff that enables/helps you to do it.
contohnya membeli nike+ untuk start berlari. lepas tu keluar lari 2 kali je, hehe.
right, am off to buy myself a tennis racket.
ayien - of course, we need our swords to be able to win battles, and pretty good one too, kan hahah tapi kalau lari 2 kali je, pepaham je lah... enjoy shopping
B - alamak... EA form tinggal lagi.
It's certainly a food for thought.
Let me sleep on it aight.
